Sagamore's Center on Faith in Communities seeks to inspire, educate, equip, and resource faith-based organizations in their efforts to transform communities. On the Center's website are reports from CFIC's major research projects, collections of Center director Amy Sherman's lectures and articles, profiles of effective faith-based organizations, and "how-to" tools for practitioners.
The Center conducts applied research to learn best practices and models for addressing a variety of social ills. It also oversees demonstration projects where model programs are operated in specific communities by participating faith-based and community based partners. From 2005-2008 CFIC led such a demonstration project focused on providing interactive financial literacy training for low-income urban youth. CFIC was also highly involved in the creation of the FASTEN website, the web's largest clearinghouse of practical educational resources for community practitioners. In 2006 FASTEN's site was significantly enhanced through the addition of a new department dedicated to educational resources for congregations that wish to start or enhance community revitalization efforts.
Dr. Sherman is heavily involved in training and capacity building for congregations and faith-based nonprofits. She is the author of numerous workbooks for community ministry practitioners and speaks regularly at training conferences. Since 2007 she has served as an Advisory Board member of the Christian Community Development Association.
