Strengthening civil society-that amorphous zone of space which buffers the individual from the state-is a primary mission of Sagamore. Whereas Washington solutions focus on elite opinion and government policy, Sagamore’s researchers favor putting citizens at the center of solving America’s most stubborn problems. Sagamore's civil society portfolio includes two entities dedicated to building the capacity of policymakers, frontline practitioners and philanthropists interested in public-private partnerships: Center for Faith in Communities and Foundation for American Renewal. Sagamore and Baylor University’s Institute on the Studies of Religion formed a research collaboration to investigate the “faith factor” in social services and the think tank also features work aimed at promoting corporate citizenship, strategic philanthropy and improved civic education.
